About Us
The Living Room Study is a Bible study that started in Steve Wiggin's living room. Our desire is to raise the Biblical literacy of a generation by encouraging people to read a chapter of the Bible each day. When we come together each week, we are discussing every 7th chapter. At this pace, we cover the New Testament in 9.5 months and the entire Bible in 3.2 years!
Goal
"And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up."- Deuteronomy 6:6-7
We want to build a community of believers where the Word of God is on everybody's hearts and minds. We believe that happens best when friends and family are all sharing with each other what the Lord has revealed to them each day.
Daily Devotional
The Living Room Study daily devotional is an important part of encouraging people in their daily reading. Our prayer is simple: “God, show me something in Your word today, and give me somebody to share it with.” Steve simply shares with others something relevant that God has revealed to him. But as Steve likes to say, if the choice is between reading the devotional or reading the chapter, then read the chapter!
Public Setting
Another important aspect of the Living Room Study is our venue. Most of our Living Room Study groups meet in coffee shops. Just as ancient Christians preached God's word in the public meeting places of their day, the coffee shop has become something of the modern “Mars Hill.” Our hope is that perhaps some unbeliever would walk in, be convicted by the Word, and worship God. (see 1 Cor. 14:1, 24-25)
Amazingly, the whole thing works on zero budget. I negotiate the free use of space, in return for me filling it with customers for the (traditionally) worst 2 hours of the worst business days: Tuesday/Thursday, 7-9pm. I don’t take up an offering and everyone (including the music artists) volunteers their time.
